About
Rajasthan Josh led and directed by Chugge Khan, is a collective of Manganiyar musicians from the districts of Barmer and Jaisalmer.
They are the descendants of the Rajputs and are renowned as highly skilled folk musicians of the Thar Desert. Their songs are passed on from generation to generation as a form of oral history of the desert.
They use instruments like the morchang, bhapang khartaal, double flute, nagara & bamboo flute while incorporating vocal styles ranging from mystic Sufi traditions, bhajans, qawwali Manganiyar, Langa & popular folk songs of Rajasthan.
They have given countless performances across countries including France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Thailand, the U.S.A., the U.K., Australia, South Africa, the U.A.E., Germany and so on.
They have played at many government festivals, tourism events, local and national venues in India. They have performed at some major events in India like Common Wealth Games, Delhi, Little’s Festival, Delhi, Sufi Festival, Mumbai, Virasat Festival by Jaipur Virasat Foundations, RIFF festival, Jodhpur and Jaipur Literature Festival.
They have performed with renowned Bollywood composer A.R. Rahman and also with the world’s fastest drummer, Sivamani.
Rajasthan Josh has also performed at many worldwide festivals like Palio Festival in Switzerland, Common Wealth Game in Australia, Womax Festival in Spain, Womand Festival in the U.K, Barbican Festival in Israel and Morocco Fes Festival.
As artists they are magicians of instruments creating music that is rhythmic, hypnotic desert sounds embracing traditional and contemporary styles & fusions.
